Midwifery model of care vs.....the other 'care'

It must be that moms just DO NOT KNOW. They do not know what they are missing.

HERE is a quick read article written by a mom who has two children. One with a typical, busy OBGYN/CNM practice (ended with a C-section) and the other baby born under the Midwifery Model of Care. Read the difference. You might be pleasantly surprised!

I am working on a post concerning my little poll to the right....but I am having trouble keeping it short, sweet and to the point! So perhaps one day I will actually post my rebuttal.

Article's by Doctors Regarding Birth

Interesting. Two doctors, two very different points of view.

HERE is a typical MD, dishing on homebirths and 'patients' who want a say in their own medical care. (gasp!) His statement? "I often believe that patients don't have the capabilities to make proper decisions about their clinical options. When the issue is childbirth, excuse me, patients
are often nuts. Just witness the epidemic of home childbirths!"

Don't EVEN get me started on that one.

HERE is a Marsden Wagner, a Perinatologist no less, that world for the WHO (World Health Organization). Read what he is saying about births...and compare. Which guy would YOU like at your birth???

Birth Slideshow

HERE is a stunning slideshow of a labor/birth by a professional photographer. She really captures the JOY of giving birth!

Beware...you will want to have another baby after seeing this  :)

Written by an MD

"By treating childbirth as a disease, the obstetrician makes his
intervention indispensable. If obstetricians acknowledged the fact that
more than ninety-five percent of births proceed entirely without
complications, more than ninety-five percent of their services would be
recognized as unnecessary. That would mean a lot fewer obstetricians - as
well as healthier families. Instead, what we have is childbirth taking place
in an operating room. Of course, it may not be a bad idea to have all
hospital births occur in an operating room, since hospital births are a lot
more dangerous. Babies born in the hospital are six times more likely to
suffer distress during labor and delivery, eight times more likely to get
caught in the birth canal, four times more likely to need resuscitation,
four times more likely to become infected, and thirty times more likely to
be permanently injured. Their mothers are three times more likely to
hemorrhage."

LOVIN this birth story :)

I loved THIS birth story.

What a woman...doing what she was meant to do.

So much for a 'marginal pelvis' and CPD.

Docs, GIVE US A CHANCE.

Birth Center in DC

HERE is a wonderful story about a midwife in Washington DC who opened a birth center for low-income moms.

The national infant mortality rate is about 6.8 deaths per 1,000 live births...and in Washington DC the rate is DOUBLE that and 12.2 deaths per 1,000 live births.

There is NO EXCUSE for such a travesty.

So this 81 year old midwife decided to spend more time with her clients and be there for them. So these moms on medicaid (considered 'high risk' just for that and their social status) have been receiving midwifery care for the past 8 years. And what do you know, the infant mortality rate has lowered and the premature baby rate has been sliced in half.

Proof that midwifery care is superior and time spent with clients can make all the difference in whether a child lives or dies.

This midwife is a wonderful example to us all!!!
